AMEDA DOHA 2024
Maroclear participated in the annual event of the Africa and Middle East Depositories Association (AMEDA) held for the first time in Doha, Qatar on May 1-2, 2024.
This forum brought together more than 80 participants from 30 countries, including high-level financial and banking executives. The main theme was “The growing use of artificial intelligence (AI) in central securities depositories (CSDs) and sustainability through new initiatives while maintaining data security”.
This theme highlighted several essential aspects:
The integration of AI into CSDs: AI is recognized as a key tool for transforming company operations. central depositories by automating processes, improving risk management, and increasing operational efficiency. For example, AI can be used to reduce transaction costs and simplify post-trade operations. Participants explored the challenges of adopting it while ensuring high standards of security and reliability.
Support for Sustainability and ESG: Discussions also highlighted initiatives integrating environmental, social and governance (ESG) practices to ensure the continuity and viability of CSDs. These measures include strategies to reduce the environmental footprint and integrate ESG criteria into financial processes, thereby promoting long-term sustainable growth.
- Strengthening Data Security: Amid growing cybersecurity threats, the forum highlighted the importance of protecting sensitive data. Participants shared best practices to strengthen the resilience of financial market infrastructures against cyberattacks and guarantee the confidentiality of information.
These topics are part of a perspective of transformation in the region, where technological innovation and product sustainability is a focal point for raising competitiveness and thus attracting foreign investment.
